Walk with us. Because four months on, nothing has changed.

Slapton Line Walk - Bank Holiday Monday, 25 May, 11am

Published: 13 May 2026

On the 3rd of February, Storm Ingrid took 200 metres of the A379 into the sea. Four months later, there’s still no reopening date, no repair plan, and no end in sight for the communities cut off behind it.

Children are taking longer journeys to school. Carers are arriving late. Patients are missing appointments. Buses have been cut. Pubs, shops and B&Bs that depend on summer trade are watching their season disappear. Lorries are being pushed down lanes never built for them.

We’ve waited patiently. We’ve been told works are “temporary.” We’ve watched the government invest elsewhere while a stretch of one of Britain’s most iconic coastal roads – and the villages it serves – are quietly left to manage.

So, on Bank Holiday Monday, we’re walking. Together. From Strete Gate to Torcross, along the very stretch that’s failing us. Because the people making the decisions need to see that we’re still here, we still care, and we’re not going away.

Join us. Bring your family, your neighbours, your dog.

The route: Just over two miles along the South West Coast Path, flat and easy. Around 50 minutes at a comfortable pace.

11.00  Set off from Strete Gate Car Park

11.30  Slapton Memorial Car Park (you can join here for a shorter, 1-mile walk)

12.00  Arrive at Torcross Car Park for a media event with Parish Council Chairs, local business owners and residents

You will be able to buy refreshments.

Can’t walk? Come anyway. Meet us at Torcross Car Park at midday. Standing with us counts.

A few practical bits. Parking charges apply at all car parks. Remember you’ll need to walk back, so allow time. Wear comfortable shoes.  It’s the coast, so layers are wise.

Spread the word. Forward this to anyone who cares about South Devon. Share it on Facebook, Instagram and wherever possible. Tell your neighbours. The more of us who walk, the louder the message.

You can also find further information on our Slapton Line Walk Facebook page.

Organised by Strete, Slapton, Stoke Fleming, Frogmore and Sherford and other Parish Councils, in solidarity with the businesses and residents of the Slapton Line.
