South West Water service disruption and priority service register

South West Water offer a free service to provide extra support for people who need it. During the recent service disruption bottled water was delivered to some households.

Who can register with Priority Services?

There are different reasons why someone might join the Priority Services Register. This includes a disability or medical condition, restricted mobility or a short-term injury, a mental health condition or neurodiversity, a sight, hearing or speech condition, being over 65 years old or having children aged under five years at home.

What kind of support is available?

The support provides depends on customer need. This includes:

Updates on supply interruptions South West Water will tell customers if there is any disruption to water services.

Communication options South West Water can send your bill and other information in a format that suits you. This might be a different format like Braille, large print or another language, having them call or nominating a carer, family member or friend for us to send the bill so they can help you. You can also use Text Relay by texting 18001 followed by the number you need to call. South West Water offer a British Sign Language service

Meter reading South West Water check water meters twice a year and use the information to work out your bills. If you find it hard to read your meter yourself, South West Water can add another two meter readings a year.

Protection against bogus callers  If bogus callers are a concern for you, you can set up a password – if someone who claims to work for South West Water doesn’t know the password, don’t let them in. Unless it’s an emergency, South West Water usually make an appointment with you before calling and all South West Water staff carry ID. If you have doubts about someone, ask them to stay outside while you call South West Water to check. Their staff won’t mind waiting.

Knock and wait If you need extra time to get to the door, let South West Water know. They’ll make sure their team members know if they ever need to visit you.

Dialysis support
If you’re living with chronic kidney disease and use dialysis machines at home, South West Water can note this on the Priority Services Register. If there are planned disruptions to your water supply, South West Water can contact you beforehand so you can make alternative arrangements. If they ever need to turn off the water supply, for example in an emergency, they can provide bottled water and give you updates about when normal service will resume.
