Waste Collection
SHDC has requested that residents do not modify their wheelie bins with straps, bungee cords or similar items as these can be dangerous for the waste collection teams.

SHDC has asked the PC to remind residents not to modify their wheelie bins. These can be huge hazards to staff when operating the bin lift so must be removed from the bin and lid before collection is due. A recent case nationally had a waste operative nearly catapulted into the compactor system in the rear of the vehicle.https://www.southhams.gov.uk/news/2025/safety-our-waste-crews
They have also asked the PC to remind residents to confirm the credentials of any waste contractors used to remove household or building waste from properties as there has been a significant increase in fly tipping across South Hams lately and you could be held responsible/fined if waste from your property is fly tipped. https://www.southhams.gov.uk/news/2025/be-waste-aware
Your support with both the safety of those carrying out weekly waste collections and in the reduction of fly tipping is much appreciated.
