SHDC has advised that both the Torcross Tank Car Park and the public toilets there have now reopened.

Message from SHDC below.

South Hams District Council is still deeply involved in helping our communities at Torcross following the impacts of the winter storms, including reopening Torcross Tank Car Park and public toilets.

Over the past few weeks, our teams have been working hard to support residents and local businesses in the area.

This has included assisting residents with waste removal, clearing storm debris and street cleansing throughout Torcross, deep cleaning and repairing the public toilets at Torcross Tank Car Park, and preparing the car park for reopening.

We’re pleased to say that both the Torcross Tank Car Park and the public toilets there have now reopened.

Councillor Julian Brazil, South Hams District Council’s Lead Member for Community Services and Operations, said: “It has taken a huge amount of hard work to get the Torcross Tank Car Park open in time for half term. The hard work and collaboration between South Hams District Council, Devon County Council and their contractor Landmarc have led to the car park and access to the South West Coast Path opening again quickly after such terrible damage. I’d like to thank everyone involved for pulling together in such a fantastic team effort, and thank you to the community for their patience while we carried out the essential works needed to get these facilities reopened.”

Cllr Dan Thomas, Leader of South Hams District Council and Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “The response to the situation at Torcross has been swift, and this has been crucial to ensure that all the agencies involved can support local people throughout this situation. Now the car park is reopened, I encourage people to support businesses in the area throughout half-term and the weeks beyond, to help them through this difficult period.”

Caroline Voaden, MP for South Devonsaid: “I would like to offer my thanks to everyone who has worked so hard to get the car park in Torcross open in time for half term. It’s been a fantastic team effort and I hope visitors come to the area and show their support for local businesses.”

There are understandably still areas affected by storm damage, such as the green at Beesands; we’re asking the public to use their common sense and stay away from these areas, including avoiding climbing over the rock barrier.
