More information and advice below from SHDC:
A significant wildfire broke out on central Dartmoor recently. Thanks to the hard work of teams on the ground it has now been extinguished. However, significant damage has been done and there is concern for wildlife in the effected area.
This continuing dry weather poses an increased risk of fire for Dartmoor so please take extra care.
- BBQ at home, not the countryside
- Take all your litter home, including cigarette butts
- Don’t light open fires
- If you see a wildfire, call 999 immediately
Ahead of another sunny and dry weekend, people are reminded of the leave-no-trace principles which play a key role in fire prevention.
