Tree Hub

Our Tree Wardens, Mike Hitch and James Curtis, review all applications for tree works in the Parish submitted to South Hams District Council. They also run a 'Free Trees Hub' at various times throughout the year in conjunction with Devon Wildlife Trust 'Saving Devon's Treescape' project.

Slapton Tree Hub

Our Tree Wardens advise on any tree works in the Parish that are subject to approval by South Hams District Council. This includes works on trees of a certain size inside the conservation area and any trees outside the conservation area that have a tree preservation order on them.

South Hams District Council ask our Tree Wardens to complete a questionnaire for each application and to submit that to their Tree Officer. Our Tree Wardens will usually visit the site before submitting the questionnaire and any further recommendations.

They are also happy to advise potential applicants ahead before they submit their application if requested to do so. Their role is solely advisory and they don’t have executive authority. However, the work that they do is important and the Parish Council are grateful for their support and expertise.

Our Tree Wardens also run ‘Free Trees Hubs’, which are held at Slapton Village Hall and will be advertised in the event calendar. Devon Wildlife Trust gives away free trees for residents to plant in their gardens as part of the saving ‘Devon’s Treescape’ project. You can collect between 1 to 5 trees with a free planting guide. Trees will be 2 to 3 years old and around 20-60cm in height. They are usually native broad leaf species such as crab apple, wild cherry, rowan and birch.
